Edmund Zygfryd Trebus (born November 11, 1918 – died September 29, 2002) was a man who collected so many things that it became a problem. This is known as compulsive hoarding. He became well-known after being featured on a British TV show called A Life of Grime.

Who Was Edmund Trebus?

Edmund Trebus was born in a place called Ostrowo, near Danzig (which is now Gdańsk in Poland). This was on November 11, 1918, which was the very day World War I ended.

His Time in World War II

When Nazi Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Edmund was forced to join the German army. Later, he was captured and then joined the Allied forces. He served in Italy with the Polish army, which was working with the British. His job was in a special unit that fought against tanks.

Life After the War

After World War II, Edmund moved to England. In 1949, he married Jozefa Noga, and they had five children together.

Edmund loved collecting things his whole life. People often saw him pushing a small cart filled with his latest finds. He would carefully sort these items into piles at his home and in his garden. One of his biggest passions was Elvis Presley. He managed to collect almost every single Elvis record ever made!

His Home and the TV Show

When Edmund was in his eighties, he lived alone in an old house in North London. He had a lot of trouble with the local council because of all the items piled up around his home. He lived in just a small part of his house, surrounded by huge stacks of things, because he never threw anything away.

The BBC TV show A Life of Grime showed Edmund often arguing with council workers. They were trying to clear his house, which had a massive amount of collected items. Eventually, he moved to a nursing home in Southgate, where he passed away at 83 years old. After he died, the BBC aired a special show about him called Mr Trebus: A Life of Grime.
