Edmund de Ferrers, 6th Baron Ferrers of Chartley, was an important English nobleman who lived from 1386 to 1435. He was the son of Robert de Ferrers, who was the 5th Baron Ferrers of Chartley, and Margaret Le Despenser. His mother was the daughter of Edward le Despencer, 1st Baron le Despencer.
Edmund became the Baron Ferrers of Chartley after his father passed away in 1413. A "Baron" was a title of nobility, often meaning they held land directly from the King. Even though he inherited this important title, Edmund was never officially called to join the King's Parliament.
A Brave Knight in Battle
Edmund de Ferrers was a brave knight who fought for King Henry V of England. He took part in many of the King's great victories during a long conflict known as the Hundred Years' War. One of the most famous battles he fought in was the Battle of Agincourt. This battle took place in 1415 and was a huge victory for the English army.
Family Life and New Lands
Edmund de Ferrers married a woman named Helen. She was the daughter and one of the heirs of Thomas de la Roche. Through this marriage, Edmund gained a lot of new land and properties. One of these important new lands was Castle Bromwich, located in the county of Warwickshire.
Edmund and Helen had three children together. Their two sons were named Edmund and William. The older son, Edmund, was meant to inherit most of his father's lands. However, it was William who later became the 7th Baron Ferrers of Chartley. They also had a daughter named Margaret de Ferrers. She married John Beauchamp, 1st Baron Beauchamp of Powick and became known as Lady Beauchamp of Powick.
Later Life and Legacy
Edmund de Ferrers, 6th Baron Ferrers of Chartley, lived to be 49 years old. He passed away in the year 1435. His life showed the importance of noble families and their role in the history and battles of England during the 15th century.
