Edna Henry Lee Turpin (born in 1867, died in 1952) was an American author. She was born on July 26, 1867, in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, at a place called Echo Hill. Her father, Edward Henry Turpin, passed away before she was born. Edna grew up on the family farm with her mother, Petronella Lee Turpin, and her older brother, Henderson. She started writing at a young age. When she was just fifteen, her very first short story was accepted for publication!

Her Life and Work

Edna Turpin later graduated from Hollins College. She spent many years living and working at the Mountain Lake Biological Station in Virginia. There, she continued to write and was part of a community of scientists and artists. Edna never married, choosing instead to focus her life on writing and literary projects. She was a member of many professional groups throughout her life. She passed away on June 8, 1952, and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.

Edna Turpin wrote many books of her own. She also helped edit and put together several collections of stories and poems by other famous authors. For example, she edited a collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales for young readers. She also worked on a collection that included "The Gold-Bug" and other stories by Edgar Allan Poe.
