Eduardo Arana Ysa was born on October 18, 1965. He is a Peruvian lawyer and politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Peru starting in May 2025. Before that, he was the Minister of Justice and Human Rights from September 2023 to May 2025.
Education and Early Career
Eduardo Arana went to the Don Bosco Salesian School in Callao. He finished school there in 1982. He later studied Law and Political Science at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega University.
Since 2000, he has been a professor at the Federico Villarreal National University. He also worked as an advisor for Javier Villa Stein. Mr. Villa Stein was the president of the Judiciary from 2009 to 2011. Arana was also an arbitrator for government contracts.
Political Journey
Arana began his political career in 2018. He ran to be a councilor for the San Isidro district. This was during the municipal elections. He was part of the Alliance for Progress party. However, he was not elected at that time.
Later, he worked as an advisor in Congress. He helped with topics like Justice and Education. He advised Congresswoman Gladys Echaíz.
Serving as Minister of Justice
On September 6, 2023, President Dina Boluarte chose Eduardo Arana. He became the new Minister of Justice and Human Rights. He took over from Daniel Maurate.
On April 13, 2025, he announced he would leave this role. He officially left when he was appointed Prime Minister. This happened after Gustavo Adrianzén resigned from the position.
