Eduardo Carriles (1923–2020) was an important Spanish person. He was a lawyer, a businessman, and a politician. He is best known for serving as the Minister of Finance for Spain from 1976 to 1977. This job meant he was in charge of the country's money and economy.

Early Life and Career

Eduardo Carriles was born in a city called Santander on November 28, 1923. He studied hard and became a lawyer. This means he was trained to understand and work with laws.

Besides being a lawyer, he also worked in business. He was the general secretary for a company called Aeronáutica Industrial. He also helped lead many other companies as a director.

Joining Politics

Eduardo Carriles was part of a group called the Tácito group. This group wanted to bring about changes and improvements in Spain. Later, he and others from this group decided to start their own political party. They named it the Unión Democrática Española.

In 1976, Eduardo Carriles was chosen for a very important role. He became the Minister of Finance. This meant he was part of the government's main team, called the cabinet. The cabinet was led by the Prime Minister, Adolfo Suárez. He started his job on July 7, 1976.

Challenges as Minister

When Eduardo Carriles became Minister of Finance, Spain was facing a tough time. There was an "economic crisis," which means the country's money system was having big problems. Prices were going up, and jobs were hard to find.

Like the ministers before him, Eduardo Carriles worked hard to fix these problems. However, the crisis was very big, and it was difficult to make things better quickly. His time as Minister of Finance ended on July 4, 1977.

Later Life and Legacy

Eduardo Carriles married Carola Díaz de Bustamante in 1950. They had a large family with eight children.

For his important work and service to Spain, he received a special award. It was called the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III. This is a very high honor in Spain.

Eduardo Carriles passed away on January 12, 2020, at the age of 96. His funeral was held in Madrid on February 6.
