Eduardo Sáenz Hermúa (1859–1898) was a Spanish artist. He was known by his artistic name, Mecachis. He was a cartoonist, an illustrator, and a writer of plays. Sometimes, he also signed his work as Augusto Marnaz.

Life of Eduardo Sáenz Hermúa

Eduardo Sáenz Hermúa was born in Madrid in 1859. He first started studying medicine. But in 1879, he decided to change his path. He then trained at the School of Painting. There, he learned from famous artists like Federico Madrazo and Luis Rivera.

His Work as an Artist

Eduardo became a talented artist. He drew for many newspapers and magazines. Some of these were La Broma and Madrid Cómico. He even started his own magazine, La Caricatura, in 1884. He worked with José Gil y Campos on this project. He also contributed to La Correspondencia de España and the well-known Blanco y Negro magazine.

His Plays

Besides drawing, Eduardo also wrote plays. He created many popular shows. Some of his plays include Sol, Tila, Figaro, and Mademoiselle. He also wrote Pajarón, El Barbero de mi barrio, and Los Chicos.

Eduardo Sáenz Hermúa passed away on 29 July 1898. He was around 38 or 39 years old.
