Edvinas Krungolcas (born January 21, 1973) is a famous retired athlete from Lithuania. He competed in an exciting sport called modern pentathlon. His biggest achievement was winning a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
The modern pentathlon is a very challenging sport. It tests athletes in five different events: fencing, swimming, horse riding (show jumping), shooting, and running.
A Champion's Career
Edvinas was one of the world's best modern pentathletes for many years. Besides his Olympic silver medal, he won many other awards at World and European Championships. The table on the right shows all the medals he won during his amazing career.
In 2008, his incredible success was recognized in his home country, and he was named the Lithuanian Sportsman of the Year.
Life After Competing
On January 21, 2013, on his 40th birthday, Edvinas Krungolcas announced that he was retiring from professional sports.
Even though he stopped competing, he stayed involved in the world of sports. He worked as an official at the 2016 Olympic Games, helping to make sure the events ran smoothly.
