Sir Edward Bayly, 1st Baronet (born February 20, 1684 – died September 28, 1741) was an important person from Ireland. He owned a lot of land and was involved in politics.

His Family and Early Life

Edward Bayly was the son of Nicholas Bayly. His grandfather was Lewis Bayly, who was a bishop. Edward's mother was named Dorothy Hall.

His Work in Politics

Edward Bayly became a member of the Irish House of Commons in 1705. This was like being a member of parliament, helping to make laws for Ireland. He represented the area of Newry until 1714.

In 1712, Edward inherited a lot of land and property. This included a large estate called Plas Newydd in Anglesey, Wales, and other lands in Ireland. He got these after his cousin, Nicholas Bagenall, passed away.

Edward also served as a High Sheriff of Anglesey in 1717. This was an important local job, like a chief official for the county. Later, he was the High Sheriff of Down in Ireland in 1730.

In 1730, he received a special honor. He was made a Baronet. This is a title that is passed down through the family, similar to a knight, but it's hereditary. His title was "Baronet of Plas Newydd" and "Mount Bagenall."

His Children and Legacy

Sir Edward Bayly married Dorothy Lambart in 1708. They had several children. Their younger son, Edward Bayly, became a clergyman and held an important church position in Dublin.

Sir Edward Bayly passed away in September 1741 when he was 57 years old. His eldest son, Nicholas, took over his title and estates.

Edward Bayly's grandson, Henry, later became the 10th Baron Paget. This Henry was also the father of Henry Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey. This later Henry was a famous general and a hero at the Battle of Waterloo!

Lady Bayly, Edward's wife, lived for four more years after her husband passed away. She died in August 1745.
