What Does the Edward Frisbie Homestead Look Like?

The Edward Frisbie Homestead is in a quiet area of eastern Branford. It stands on the north side of Stony Creek Road. This road is also known as Connecticut Route 146.

Outside the House

The house is made of wood and has two and a half stories. It has a pointed roof, called a gabled roof. A large chimney stands in the middle of the house. The outside walls are covered with overlapping wooden boards called clapboard.

On the right side, there's a smaller, one-story section. This part also has a gabled roof. The front of the house has five windows and a door. They are placed evenly across the front. The main door has six panels. It has decorative flat columns on each side. A fancy molding sits above the door.

Inside the House

Inside, the house has a special layout. It is built around the central chimney. Many of the original wooden details are still there. The doors and windows have decorative frames. The walls around the fireplaces have carved wooden mantels and panels. These details show how elegant the house was for its time.

Who Was Edward Frisbie?

A Family's History

The Edward Frisbie Homestead was a very fancy house for its time. It was probably built so nicely because Edward Frisbie was successful in business. He was involved in trade during the American Revolutionary War. The Frisbie family was important in town. They owned the house until 1870.
