The Edward Little House is a very old and important house in Auburn, Maine. It was built way back in 1827. This house is special because it's one of the oldest homes on the south side of Auburn. It was once the home of Edward Little, who was a big landowner and helped Auburn grow a lot. This historic house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

About the Edward Little House

The Edward Little House is located on the west side of Main Street. It stands just south of Auburn's main downtown area. You can find it right at the corner of Vine Street.

What Does It Look Like?

The Edward Little House is a wooden building with two and a half stories. It has five sections across the front. The main entrance is in the middle, with windows on either side. A cool fan-shaped window sits above the door.

A two-story section extends from the back of the house. The inside of the house is very well kept. It still has many original details from the 1800s. For example, there's a beautiful curving staircase in the center.

The house has a typical layout for its time. There's a main hallway in the middle. On the right side, you'll find a double parlor, which is like two living rooms connected. On the left, there's a large dining room. An archway with fancy carvings separates the two parts of the parlor.

Who Was Edward Little?

Edward Little built this house in 1827. He was originally from Newbury, Massachusetts. He moved to Auburn in 1826 and lived there for the rest of his life. Edward Little received a lot of land from his family. This land included big areas in Auburn, Lewiston, and nearby towns.

Edward Little was famous for being very generous. He gave many gifts to help the growing community of Auburn. He supported both religious groups and public organizations. His contributions helped Auburn become the city it is today.
