Edward Stourton was born around 1555. He was a younger son in a noble family. His father was Charles Stourton, the 8th Baron Stourton. His mother was Lady Anne Stanley, whose father was the 3rd Earl of Derby. Edward grew up in a time of many changes in England.
Facing Challenges and Proving Innocence
In 1605, a famous event called the Gunpowder Plot happened. This was a plan to blow up the Parliament building in London. Edward Stourton found himself in trouble because of this plot. He received a letter from his cousin, Francis Tresham, who was one of the people involved in the plot. The letter told Edward to stay away from Parliament.
Because of this letter, Edward was taken to the Tower of London, a famous prison. However, nothing was ever proven against him. It turned out that other noblemen, who were also Roman Catholic, had received similar warnings. Edward was released from the Tower without any charges. This showed that he was not involved in the plot.
