Edwin Pope was a very important sportswriter in America. He worked at the Miami Herald from 1956 until he passed away in 2017. Many people thought he was "the best writer of sports in America."
His Start in Sports Writing
Before joining the Miami Herald, Edwin Pope wrote a successful book. It was called Football's Greatest Coaches and came out in 1954. This book helped him get a job at the Miami Herald in 1956. He moved from the Atlanta area to Miami to start his new role.
Covering the Biggest Games
Edwin Pope covered many major sporting events during his career. He wrote about the Super Bowl every year, from the very first one (Super Bowl I) all the way to Super Bowl XLVII. This means he saw and wrote about 47 Super Bowls! His articles helped readers feel like they were right there at the games.
