Edwin Rene Murray, known as Ed Murray, was born on August 6, 1960. He is an American lawyer and Democratic politician. Ed Murray is from New Orleans, Louisiana.

Ed Murray's Early Life and Education
Ed Murray grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He has lived there his whole life. He went to John F. Kennedy High School.
After high school, he studied at Loyola University. In 1982, he earned a degree in political science. Later, in 1985, he earned a law degree.
A Career in Public Service
Ed Murray began his career in public service in 1992. He served in the Louisiana House of Representatives. He held the District 96 seat for Orleans Parish. He served in this role until 2004.
From 2005 to 2016, Ed Murray served as a State Senator. He represented District 4 in the Louisiana State Senate.
What Ed Murray Does as a Lawyer
Ed Murray is a partner in a law firm. It is called Murray, Darnell & Associates. He is also a member of several important legal groups. These include the African-American National Bar Association. He is also part of the American Association for Justice.

Running for Mayor
In late 2009, Ed Murray announced he wanted to become Mayor of New Orleans. This was for the 2010 election. However, he decided not to run before the election took place.
Life After the Senate
Ed Murray could not run for the State Senate again in 2015. This is because of term limits. Term limits mean a politician can only serve for a certain number of years. After his term ended in January 2016, Wesley T. Bishop took his place.
