Early Life and Joining the Air Force

Edwin Michael Reyno was born on May 11, 1917, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He went to Saint Mary's University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

On January 3, 1938, Edwin Reyno joined the RCAF. This was before World War II began. He was sent overseas to serve with No.1 (C) Squadron.

Fighting in World War II

During World War II, Edwin Reyno was a brave fighter pilot. He also worked as an instructor, teaching others how to fly. He fought with great skill and courage in the Battle of Britain. This was a very important air battle where the Royal Air Force defended the United Kingdom against attacks from the German air force.

Leading the Air Force

After the war, Edwin Reyno continued his military career. He attended special colleges to learn more about military leadership and strategy. In 1947, he went to RCAF Staff College. Later, in 1959, he attended the Imperial Defence College.

Important Roles and Commands

Edwin Reyno held many important positions as he moved up in rank. From 1952 to 1955, he was the Director of Strategic Air Plans. This meant he helped plan how the air force would operate.

In 1955, he was promoted to Air Commodore. He became the Air Officer Commanding at Air Defence Command. This role involved leading the forces that protected Canada's airspace.

By 1963, he was promoted again to Air Vice-Marshal. He became the Chief of Air Staff for the 4th Allied Tactical Air Force. This was a group of air forces working together.

His final promotion to Air Marshal came in July 1966. He was then appointed as the Chief of Personnel for the Canadian Forces. This meant he was in charge of all the people serving in Canada's military.

From 1969 to 1972, he served as the Deputy Commander of NORAD. NORAD is a joint command between Canada and the United States that protects the airspace of North America.

Edwin Reyno had three daughters named Nancy, Ruth, and Kathleen. He passed away on February 10, 1982.
