Egnatius Lucillianus was an important Roman official called a Roman senator. He lived a long time ago, from about 210 AD to after 244 AD.

Who Was Egnatius Lucillianus?

Egnatius Lucillianus was a powerful person in the Roman Empire. Some people think he might have been the son of another important Roman named Lucius Egnatius Victor Lollianus. They also thought he might have been the father of Egnatius Lucillus. However, historians are not sure if he was directly related to the famous Egnatia family, who were very important in Rome.

His Role in Roman Britain

Egnatius Lucillianus served as a governor in a part of Britain. This area was called Britannia Inferior, and its main city was Eboracum, which is now the city of York in England. He was in charge there sometime between the years 238 and 244 AD.

As governor, he was like the main leader or manager of the province. We don't know much else about his life, but he was involved in some important building projects. He helped to rebuild and make a Roman fort bigger in a place called Durham. He worked on this project with the governor who was there before him, Maecilius Fuscus. His name was also found on a special stone carving, called a dedication, at a place called Bremenium, which is now known as High Rochester.
