Egypt Sherrod is a well-known American TV and radio host. She is also a successful real estate broker and designer. You might know her best from HGTV shows like Flipping Virgins and Property Virgins. Egypt also runs her own real estate company, Indigo Road Realty, and a design company called Indigo Road Design Group.

Egypt Sherrod's Early Life and School

Egypt Alise Sherrod was born on November 16, 1976. Her hometown is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When she was a kid, she lived with her grandparents. She even slept in a closet that was just big enough for her bed! This made her dream of having a huge closet one day.

Egypt's College Education

Egypt went to Temple University. She earned a degree in broadcasting and telecommunications. She also studied theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She has special certifications in real estate. These help her be a great negotiator and buyer's agent.

Egypt Sherrod's Career Journey

Egypt started hosting on a jazz radio station when she was 18. At 19, she became a music director at a radio station. She was the youngest person in the country to do this. Later, she became a top radio personality for New York City’s WBLS 107.5. She interviewed many famous people there. These included Prince, Tyler Perry, and Oprah. Her radio show was heard in over 60 cities across the US. She also worked as a reporter on the Maury talk show.

Moving from Radio to Real Estate

Egypt grew tired of only reporting on gossip and entertainment. She started thinking about a new career. Her father and uncle were real estate brokers. So, she saw real estate as a good way to earn money for the future. It was also a backup plan for her radio career. Her connections to celebrities from radio helped her find real estate clients.

She bought her first home when she was 24. She noticed that a lot of her money went to fees for her real estate agents. So, she decided to become a licensed agent herself in 2002.

Becoming a TV Host

While still hosting her radio show, Egypt got a call. A casting director wanted to know if she would host a new TV show. This show would become Property Virgins. She auditioned and got the job. A few episodes into filming, she found out she was pregnant. She was worried she might lose her job, so she kept it a secret. Luckily, it was not a problem at all!

With a baby on the way, Egypt thought about her work and family life. She decided to move from New York. In March 2012, she took a job as a midday host at WVEE V-103 in Atlanta. She had visited Atlanta often as a child to see relatives. In Atlanta, she continued to interview celebrities. The show Property Virgins even moved its filming to Atlanta to fit her schedule. She filmed on weekends.

Eventually, Egypt felt overwhelmed. She had two jobs, a family, and was dealing with postpartum depression. She decided to leave her radio job. She wanted to focus on her TV filming schedule and her family.

Other TV Appearances and Projects

Egypt has often appeared on TV shows. She gives advice on buying and selling homes. You might have seen her on NBC's Today Show, CNBC, FOX, CNN, and HLN. She has also been featured in magazines and websites like Fast & Company and Black Enterprise.

It is for kids aged 8–17 who want to work in radio and television. The "Egypt Cares Give Back Tour" is an event each year. They collect coats and toys for those in need. This tour has even received special recognition from the Brooklyn President.
