Early Life and Learning
Egypt Alise Sherrod was born on November 16, 1976. Her hometown is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is the oldest of four children. When she was little, she lived at her grandparents' house. Her bedroom was a closet that just fit her bed. This made her dream of having a huge closet one day.
She went to Temple University and earned a degree in broadcasting and telecommunications. She also studied acting at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Egypt is highly skilled in real estate. She has special titles like Master Certified Negotiator.
Her Career Journey
Egypt Sherrod started hosting on a jazz radio station when she was 18. At 19, she became a music director at a radio station. She was the youngest person in the country to hold this job. She became a top radio personality for New York City’s WBLS 107.5. There, she interviewed famous people like Prince, Tyler Perry, and Oprah. Her radio show was heard in over 60 cities across the US. She also worked as a reporter for the Maury talk show.
Moving to Real Estate
Egypt grew tired of only reporting on gossip and entertainment. She thought about leaving radio. Her father and uncle were real estate brokers. She saw real estate as a way to save money for the future. It was also a good backup plan for her radio career. Her connections to celebrities through her radio work helped her find real estate clients. She bought her first home when she was 24. A lot of her money went to fees for her real estate agents. So, she decided to become a licensed agent herself in 2002.
While still hosting her radio show, Egypt got a call. A casting director wanted to know if she would host a new TV show. This show became Property Virgins. She tried out and got the job. A few episodes into filming, she found out she was pregnant. She was worried she might lose her job, so she kept it a secret. Luckily, it was not a problem for the show.
Life in Atlanta
With a baby on the way, Egypt thought about balancing work and family in New York. She wanted something new. In March 2012, she took a job as a midday host for WVEE V-103 in Atlanta. She had visited Atlanta often as a child to see relatives. In Atlanta, she interviewed celebrities like Keith Sweat and Musiq Soulchild. The show Property Virgins moved its filming to Atlanta to fit her schedule. She filmed on weekends.
Egypt felt overwhelmed with two jobs and her family life. She also experienced postpartum depression. Because of this, she eventually left her radio job. She decided to focus on her TV filming schedule instead.
