Eiji Gaya (賀谷 英司, Gaya Eiji, born 8 February 1969) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender. Gaya spent many years playing for different clubs in Japan. He is well-known for his time with Kashima Antlers.
Playing Career
Eiji Gaya was born in Muroran, Japan. This was on February 8, 1969. After finishing high school, he started his football career.
Early Years
In 1987, Gaya joined a team called Sumitomo Metal. This team later became known as Kashima Antlers. He slowly started getting chances to play. He played as a left-side defender.
Changing Roles
In 1994, a new player named Naoki Soma joined the team. Soma became the main left-side defender. Because of this, Gaya changed his position. He started playing as a right-side defender instead.
Later Career
From 1995, Gaya's playing time at Kashima Antlers became less. He then moved to Yokohama Marinos in 1997. There, he played in many matches. In 1998, he moved again to Kyoto Purple Sanga. However, he did not play much there.
In 2000, Gaya joined J2 League club Vegalta Sendai. He played many games as a regular player for this team. Eiji Gaya retired from playing football at the end of the 2001 season.
