Eiji Hirata (平田 英治, Hirata Eiji, born May 16, 1966) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a forward, which means he was usually trying to score goals for his team.

Playing Football
Early Career and First Club
Eiji Hirata was born in Yamaguchi, Japan, on May 16, 1966. After finishing his studies at Waseda University, he started his professional football career. In 1989, he joined a club called Mazda. This team later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
He made his first professional appearance in 1990. He got to play in many matches because some other players were injured. His team, Mazda, also did very well. They were promoted to the top division of the Japan Soccer League at the end of the 1990–91 season.
Playing Abroad and Return to Japan
In 1993, Eiji Hirata moved to the Czech Republic. He joined a club there called Švarc Benešov, which played in the Czech 2. Liga. This was a great experience for him to play football in a different country.
He returned to Japan in 1994. He joined a local team from his hometown area, called Yamaguchi Teachers. This team played in the Japanese Regional Leagues.
Later Career and Retirement
In 1995, Hirata moved to another club in Japan, Otsuka Pharmaceutical. This team was part of the Japan Football League at the time. He played for Otsuka Pharmaceutical for several years. He decided to stop playing professional football at the end of the 1998 season.
Coaching Football
After he stopped playing, Eiji Hirata began a new part of his career: coaching. In 1999, he started coaching at his former club, Otsuka Pharmaceutical. This club later changed its name to Tokushima Vortis.
He mostly worked as a coach for the main senior team. He also spent time as a manager for the youth teams. This meant he helped younger players learn and develop their football skills.
