Eileen Panigeo MacLean (born June 12, 1949 – died April 24, 1996) was an important American politician and teacher. She served in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1989 until 1996. This is like being a lawmaker for the state of Alaska.

Early Life and School

Eileen MacLean was born in a place called Utqiaġvik, in what was then the Alaska Territory. She was part of the Iñupiaq people, who are Native Alaskans.

She went to Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, Alaska, and graduated in 1968. After high school, she continued her education.

Eileen earned her first college degree, a bachelor's degree, in elementary education in 1975. She studied at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Later, in 1983, she earned a master's degree in education from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

Her Career in Politics and Beyond

Before becoming a politician, Eileen MacLean worked as a junior high school teacher. She also had experience in the real estate business.

She was very active in her community. She served on the North Slope Borough Assembly and the North Slope School Board. These groups help make decisions for the local area and schools.

Eileen was a member of the Democratic Party. She was elected to the Alaska House of Representatives in 1989. She worked there to help make laws for Alaska until January 12, 1996. She had to leave her position because of health problems.

Besides her work in the state government, Eileen was involved in several important organizations. She was on the executive board of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference. This group works to protect the rights and culture of Inuit people around the Arctic. She also served on the board of the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation.
