Ejegayehu Dibaba Keneni is an amazing long-distance runner from Ethiopia. She was born on March 21, 1982. Ejegayehu is famous for winning a silver medal in the 10,000 metres race at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

She also earned two bronze medals at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. These were for both the 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres events. Ejegayehu won gold medals in the 10,000 metres at the 2003 Afro-Asian Games and All-Africa Games.

Ejegayehu comes from a family of incredible athletes. Her sisters, Tirunesh and Genzebe, are also Olympic medalists. Her cousin, Derartu Tulu, is another famous runner in their family.

Early Life and Family

Ejegayehu Dibaba was born in a place called Chefe, in Ethiopia. She grew up in the high-altitude Arsi Zone of the Oromia Region. She is the third of six children in her family.

Her younger sisters, Tirunesh and Genzebe, are also well-known international long-distance runners. Their brother, Dejene, is also expected to become a star athlete. Their cousin, Derartu Tulu, has won two Olympic gold medals in running.

Running Career Highlights

Ejegayehu has had a very successful career in long-distance running. She has competed in many major events around the world.

Olympic Success

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Ejegayehu won a silver medal in the 10,000 metres. She even finished ahead of her famous cousin, Derartu Tulu, in that race!

World Championship Medals

Ejegayehu earned two bronze medals at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 2005. Her sister, Tirunesh, won the gold medal in the same race, showing how talented their family is.

Other Important Wins

In 2003, Ejegayehu won gold medals in the 10,000 metres at both the All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria, and the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad, India. She also won a silver medal at the 2004 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in the long race.

Marathon Debut

Ejegayehu tried running a marathon for the first time at the 2011 Chicago Marathon. She did incredibly well, finishing in 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 9 seconds. This was one of the fastest debut times ever for a marathon runner!
