Elías Ahúja y Andría (born January 8, 1863 – died July 20, 1951) was a kind-hearted helper of others, a leader in business, and a smart academic from Spain. He was born in Cadiz, Spain, and later passed away in New York City.

Elías Ahúja believed in making the world a better place. He worked hard to help people and communities throughout his life.

Early Life and Career

Elías Ahúja studied business at a special school in Boston. In 1903, he moved to Chile, a country in South America. There, he became a leader at a big company called the "Dupont Nitrate Company." He was first a Vice-president and then a Director.

Helping People in Spain

In 1922, Elías Ahúja returned to Spain. He started a special group called the "Elías Ahúja Charity." This charity worked to help people in need.

He loved culture and learning, so he helped create many groups. These included sports clubs, religious groups, and educational places. He also helped build important buildings like hospitals, clinics, and schools. He made sure poor people had food and helped widows and orphans. He even worked to make jails and hospitals better places.

Supporting the Scouts

Elías Ahúja did a lot to help the Spanish Scouts organization, known as "Institución Exploradores de España." He especially supported the Scouts in a town called Puerto Santa Maria. His help also reached other cities like Seville, Cadiz, and many more.

Awards and Recognition

Because of his great work, Elías Ahúja received many honors. He was the honorary president of the Red Cross in Cadiz and Seville. He also received several important awards for his kindness and help, such as:

  • The Military Service Cross
  • The Gold Medal of the Red Cross
  • The Cross of the Civilian Order
  • The Gold Medal of the Scouts

Later Life and Legacy

Elías Ahúja left Spain in 1937 and moved to Gibraltar. He later lived in New York City, where he passed away in 1951.

His name is still remembered and honored today. In Puerto Santa Maria, there is a special place and a house named after him. Also, one of the main campuses of the City University of Madrid is named Elías Ahúja. This shows how much he helped others and how important his work was.
