What Makes El Borge Special?
El Borge is often called the "raisin capital." This is because it's one of the biggest producers of Muscatel raisins. These special raisins even have their own "Denominación de Origen" (DO). This is like a special label that shows where a product comes from.
The town is part of the "Ruta de la Pasa," which means "The Raisin Route." If you visit, you'll see many paseros. These are special areas where grapes are dried in the sun to turn them into delicious raisins.
Famous People from El Borge
El Borge is known as the birthplace of a famous bandit from the 1800s. His name was Luis Muñoz Garcia, also known as the "Bizco de El Borge." Today, the house where he was born is a rural hotel. It even has a small museum that tells stories about bandits.
Delicious Local Foods
Besides the famous Muscat raisins and wine, El Borge offers many tasty local dishes.
- Ajoblanco: This is a chilled soup made from almonds.
- Gazpacho: Another chilled soup, usually made with tomatoes. Sometimes it includes lima beans or cucumber.
- Tortillas de bacalao con miel de caña: These are cod tortillas served with a sweet cane honey.
- Hornazo del Día de San Marcos: This is a special bread-like dessert. It has a boiled egg baked right in the middle!
