Exploring El Cafetal's Past
El Cafetal started as a neighborhood in the second half of the 1900s. Before that, it was a large farm where coffee beans grew. That's how the area got its name, "El Cafetal," which means "The Coffee Plantation."
From Coffee Farm to Community
In the 1950s, other neighborhoods like "Las Mercedes" and "Los Rosales" were being built nearby. Between these new areas and the old town of Petare, there was a territory dedicated to growing coffee. This land was often flooded by the Guaire River, making parts of it marshy. This was the area that would become El Cafetal.
How El Cafetal Grew
The development of El Cafetal began in the 1970s. This happened after the nearby Las Mercedes area was built. Also, the Prados del Este Highway was constructed, and the Simón Bolívar University project started. These big changes helped El Cafetal grow.
The land for El Cafetal originally belonged to Eugenio Mendoza and Armando Planchart. These private investors helped create the Avenida Principal de El Cafetal. They worked with the people who developed Las Mercedes to build this main road.
