History of the Church in El Quetzal
The "La Inmaculada Concepción" (meaning "The Immaculate Conception") parish is an important church in the area. It was first started on January 1, 1956, in a nearby municipality called La Reforma. At first, this church served both La Reforma and El Quetzal.
Early Priests and Church Building
The very first priest for this parish was Father Jaime López. He was a Franciscan, which is a type of religious order. Father López led the parish until March 5, 1958. After him, Father Juan Bartolomé Bueno took over until July 31, 1960.
Then, Father Pedro López Nadal, who was from Spain, became the priest. On April 23, 1961, the construction of the church building was finished. It was officially opened and blessed by Bishop Celestino Fernández from the San Marcos diocese. Father López Nadal continued to lead the parish until January 25, 1964.
El Quetzal Gets Its Own Parish
After Father López Nadal, Father Juan Van Der Vaeren became the new priest. A big change happened in 1965. El Quetzal was made into its own separate parish. This meant it got its own priest and no longer shared one with La Reforma. This was an important step for the community of El Quetzal.
Climate in El Quetzal
El Quetzal has a tropical monsoon climate. This type of climate is known for having a very wet season and a drier season. It usually stays warm all year round.
