El Rosario National Park is a special protected area in Petén, Guatemala. It's located right on the eastern edge of the town of Sayaxché. The park gets its name from a small lake inside it, called Laguna El Rosario.

This area used to be a state-owned farm, managed by the National Forestry Institute (INAB). But in 1980, it was officially declared a national park. The park covers about 11.05 square kilometers (that's about 4.27 square miles). This area includes the El Rosario lake. The lake's size changes a lot; it's about 4 hectares (10 acres) during the dry season, but it gets much bigger when it rains!

What is El Rosario National Park?

El Rosario National Park is a place where nature is protected. It helps keep the plants and animals safe. The park is managed by the National Forestry Institute (INAB). This group works to protect forests and natural areas in Guatemala.

The El Rosario Lake

The lake inside the park is a very important part of it. It's called Laguna El Rosario. The amount of water in the lake changes with the seasons. During the dry season, it shrinks down. But when the rainy season comes, the lake expands and becomes much larger. This changing water level creates different habitats for wildlife.

When Was the Park Created?

El Rosario National Park was officially made a national park in 1980. This means it has been protected for over 40 years! Protecting areas like this helps make sure that future generations can also enjoy Guatemala's amazing nature.
