El Viso is a small village in the province of Córdoba, located in southern Spain. In 2018, about 2,568 people lived there. El Viso is surrounded by other towns like Belalcázar, Hinojosa del Duque, and Villaralto. It is also near the provinces of Ciudad Real and Badajoz.
History of El Viso
El Viso became part of the "Condado de Santa Eufemia" in the 1400s. A "condado" was like a large area of land controlled by a powerful family or noble. In the 1800s, this old system of land ownership, called the feudal system, started to break down. When this happened, El Viso grew to become one of the most important villages in its region.
Population Changes
Over the years, the number of people living in El Viso has changed. For example, in 1996, there were 3,208 people. By 2013, this number had dropped to 2,723. This change is often called a "rural exodus," which means people are moving away from the countryside to live in bigger cities.
Fun Festivities
The biggest event in El Viso is a fun fair held every year on July 26th. This fair celebrates Santa Ana, who is the patron saint of the village. A patron saint is like a special protector or guide for a town or group of people. Early in the morning, all the "viseño" (which is what people from El Viso are called) go to the church. They celebrate a special service for Santa Ana to honor her.
