Elaine Schwartzenburg Edwards (born March 8, 1929 – died May 14, 2018) was an important person in American politics. She was a United States Senator for the state of Louisiana. She was also the wife of Edwin Edwards, who was the Governor of Louisiana for many years.
Elaine Edwards was a member of the Democratic Party. She served as a Senator for a short time in 1972. She was also the First Lady of Louisiana during her husband's terms as governor.

Elaine Lucille Schwartzenburg was born in Marksville, Louisiana. This is a town in the state of Louisiana, USA. She grew up there and later married Edwin Edwards in 1949. They had four children together.
A Senator for Louisiana
Elaine Edwards became a United States Senator in 1972. This happened when Senator Allen J. Ellender passed away. Her husband, Governor Edwin Edwards, chose her to fill the empty seat. She served as Senator from August 1, 1972, until November 13, 1972.
During her time as Senator, she helped represent the people of Louisiana in the U.S. Congress. After her term, J. Bennett Johnston took over the position.

Elaine Edwards also served as the First Lady of Louisiana two times.
