Elamville is a small place in the southwest part of Barbour County, Alabama, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county.
For many years, especially in the early to mid-1900s, Elamville was famous for its "Old Oak Tree." This big tree stood right in the middle of the community. Under its shade, older men from Elamville would gather to play dominoes on a special concrete picnic table provided by the state. It was a popular spot for people to relax and socialize.
History
Elamville got its name from a local church called Elam Church. The church itself was named after an ancient kingdom known as Elam. This kingdom was located in what is now southwestern Iran, a very long time ago. So, a little piece of ancient history lives on in the name of this small Alabama community!
