The Elder Museum of Science and Technology (Spanish: Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnología) is a museum in Las Palmas. This city is the capital of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. It's a fun place where you can learn about science and technology. The museum has many exciting, hands-on exhibits.
Discovering the Elder Museum's History
The Elder Museum is named after a shipping company. This company was called Elder Dempster Lines. They used to own the building where the museum is now.
Elder Dempster Lines started in 1878. It was created by two Scottish businessmen. Their names were Alexander Elder and John Dempster. This company helped transport bananas from Gran Canaria to Britain.
The Elder Museum opened its doors to visitors in December 1999. It has been a popular place for learning ever since.
Exploring the Museum's Collections

The museum has four floors filled with amazing displays. You can explore many different topics here. These include technology, physics, and mathematics. You can also learn about geology, biology, medicine, and astronomy.
One of the coolest parts is the digital planetarium. Here, you can learn about stars and planets. The museum also shows models of old steamships. There is even a real marine diesel engine.
You can see a Northrop F-5 fighter jet plane. There is also a special greenhouse ecosystem. Don't miss the "Robocoaster" ride! A very old steam locomotive from 1885 is near the cafeteria.
In 2017, the museum added a new exhibit. It's a model of the European Solar Telescope. This huge telescope is planned to be built on La Palma. A new Science and Research room also opened in 2017.
The museum wants you to touch and play with the exhibits. Signs around the museum even say it's forbidden not to touch things! This makes learning super interactive and fun.
