Eleanor Matsuura was born in Tokyo, Japan. She grew up in Hertfordshire, England. Her background is half-English and half-Japanese. Even though she has Japanese heritage, she does not speak Japanese.
She studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She finished her training there in 2004. She also learned different types of dance, including modern dance and period dance.
