Subnautica is an exciting survival and action-adventure game created by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. In this game, you get to explore a huge alien ocean world. You'll need to dive deep and use cool vehicles to find resources and food. Your main goal is to stay alive! The game first came out in a special early version in December 2014. The full game was released in 2018 for computers and consoles.

How to Play Subnautica

In Subnautica, you play from a first-person view, meaning you see the world through your character's eyes. You are the only person who survived a spaceship crash on a strange ocean planet. Your main goal is to explore this new world. You must also find resources to stay alive.

Staying Alive

It's important to keep an eye on your oxygen levels. You also need to find food and water to stay healthy. As you explore, you can build your own underwater bases. You can also create different vehicles to help you travel faster and deeper. The game has a day and night cycle, which changes how the world looks and feels.

The Story of Subnautica

The story of Subnautica takes place far in the future, in the 22nd century. You are a passenger on a spaceship called the Aurora. This ship crashes on a mysterious ocean planet known as 4546B. You are the only survivor of this crash.

Exploring the Planet

After the crash, you start exploring the ocean. You find strange buildings and different areas underwater. As you explore, you discover an old alien base. Here, you learn a lot about the planet's secrets. You find messages from other crew members and alien records.

The Alien Sickness

You soon discover that the Aurora was shot down by an ancient alien defense system. This system was built to stop a dangerous sickness called "Kharaa" from spreading. Unfortunately, you also get infected with this sickness. Because you are sick, you cannot turn off the alien defense system.

Finding a Cure

Later, a giant, wise creature called a Sea Emperor Leviathan contacts you using its mind. The Sea Emperor explains that the ancient aliens were trying to find a cure for the Kharaa sickness. Sea Emperor Leviathans produce a special enzyme, but adult ones don't make enough to cure everyone. The ancient aliens died before they could figure out how to help the young Sea Emperors hatch.

The Sea Emperor asks for your help to gather what it needs to hatch its eggs. Once you help the Sea Emperor, you are cured of the sickness. Now that you are healthy, you can build a rocket and escape the planet. This finishes your adventure in Subnautica.

Making the Game

Subnautica was first announced by Unknown Worlds Entertainment on December 17, 2013. The team used a game engine called Unity to build the game. This was different from their previous game.

The creators of Subnautica decided not to include deadly weapons in the game. Charlie Cleveland, the game's director, said he wanted Subnautica to be "one vote towards a world with less guns." This means the game focuses more on exploration and survival than on fighting.
