First person (video games) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

When you play a video game in first-person, it means you see the game through the eyes of your character. It's like you are actually inside the game world! This is different from third-person games. In those, you watch your character from a virtual camera, like you're seeing them from behind or above. The goal of first-person view is to make you feel like you are truly the character.

First-Person Shooter Games

One very popular type of first-person game is the first-person shooter. In these games, you often see your character's arms holding a gun or another weapon. This makes you feel like you are really holding it! Some games, like Call of Duty, even let you look closely down the sights of your weapon to aim. This helps you be more accurate.

Driving and Flying Games

Many simulation games also use a first-person view. This is especially true for games where you control a vehicle. Think about flight simulators or many racing video games. You often see the inside of the vehicle, just like a real driver or pilot. You can see the steering wheel and speedometer in a car. Or you might see the joystick and altimeter in an airplane. This view helps you feel like you are truly driving or flying.
