Eleanor Percy, Duchess of Buckingham, lived a long time ago, from about 1474 to 1530. She was the oldest daughter of a powerful nobleman, Henry Percy, 4th Earl of Northumberland. Her mother was Lady Maud Herbert. Eleanor married Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham. Sadly, her husband was accused of serious crimes against Henry VIII and lost his life in 1521. Because of this, his family's important title and lands were taken away, and their children lost what they were supposed to inherit.
Eleanor Percy's Life
Eleanor Percy was born around 1474 in a place called Leconfield in Yorkshire. When she was about sixteen, on December 14, 1490, Eleanor married Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham.
Edward Stafford's Early Life
Edward Stafford was only five years old when his father, the 2nd Duke of Buckingham, was accused of betraying the king. His father was then executed. Edward's mother, Catherine Woodville, later married Jasper Tudor, who was the first Duke of Bedford. She then married Richard Wingfield.
Two years after his father's execution, when Henry VII became king, Edward's family title and lands were given back to him. At just seven years old, Edward became the 3rd Duke of Buckingham. He also became a ward, or someone looked after, by King Henry VII's mother, Lady Margaret Beaufort.
Eleanor's Later Life
After Edward's death, Eleanor married again to a man named John Audley. She did not have any children from her second marriage.
