Electoral districts in Canada are special areas that help make Canada's government work. You might also hear them called "constituencies" or "ridings." Think of them as local areas on a map, and each area gets to choose one person to represent them in government.

In Canada, we have a representative democracy. This means people vote for someone to speak for them. Each electoral district chooses one person to be their voice.

For federal elections (the national government), each district chooses a Member of Parliament (MP). These MPs go to the House of Commons of Canada in Ottawa. For provincial or territorial elections, the person representing the district might have a different name, like a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) or a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP). No matter the name, their job is to represent the people in their district.
