His Family and Ancestors

Elepuʻukahonua came from a respected family. His father was Chief Kumuhonua of Oʻahu. His mother was Chiefess Hainakolo.

The Maweke Line

Chief Kumuhonua was the son of Chief Mulielealiʻi. Mulielealiʻi belonged to the famous Maweke family line. The Maweke ancestors were known to be very skilled, and some legends say they came from Tahiti.

Becoming a Ruler

After his father, Kumuhonua, passed away, Elepuʻukahonua became the new ruler of Oʻahu. It is believed he became chief because he was the oldest son. He had three brothers: Molohaia, Kahakuokane, and Kukawaieakane.

His Own Family

Chief Elepuʻukahonua married a woman named Hikilena. We don't know much about her parents today. Elepuʻukahonua and Hikilena had a son named Kahokupohakano. Later, Kahokupohakano and his wife, Kaumana II, had a son named Nawele. Nawele eventually became a ruler of Oʻahu, continuing the family's leadership.
