Elfy Food was a fun British animated mini-series. It was made by Turner Broadcasting for Cartoon Network UK. The show came out in 2005. It had six short cartoons, each about 2 minutes long. The main idea was to teach kids about eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. It featured five special elves who went on exciting missions to find magical foods!

"Initially, it was a defensive measure, then it became clear we could contribute something in the long term if we invested enough time and money and had a decent story."

-Richard Kilgarriff, the general manager of Turner Entertainment Networks

About Elfy Food

This mini-series was created to help kids understand healthy eating. It also aimed to respond to concerns about childhood obesity. Making the show took about 18 months and cost £250,000.

Many children's charities supported the show. These included Barnardo's, ChildLine, and Mencap. Experts from Great Ormond Street children's hospital also helped. The series was even offered for free to other TV channels like the BBC and Channel 4.

Turner Broadcasting wanted the show to last a long time. They hoped it would keep teaching new kids every year. The stories were made to be classic adventures. They featured good versus evil and characters overcoming challenges.

"We want it to last a long time, because our audience is renewed every year, so we made a lot of the story elements very traditional - setting up obstacles that characters overcome and the forces of good and evil battling together."

-Richard Kilgarriff, the general manager of Turner Entertainment Networks

In October 2005, a new episode was shown every hour for a week. This happened during peak viewing times in Europe. You could watch it on Cartoon Network, Boomerang, and Toonami. The show was also seen in the US. Each episode focused on a different fruit or vegetable. These foods gave the elves special superpowers! The show's motto was: "Once we've eaten, we can't be beaten."

The Story of Elfy Food

The show takes place in a magical place called Elf Land. Here, elves live very long and active lives. This is all thanks to their special diet of "Elfy Food."

But an evil dictator named Frank Farter has a bad plan. He burns all the crops in Elf Land. His goal is to make the elves weak so he can take over.

Luckily, not all hope is lost! The head of the elves chooses five young elves for a special mission. Their names are Amy, Bippin, Yuri, Sylva, and Ezra. They must find secret stores of Elfy Food. These hidden foods are in the most unexplored parts of the land.

But Frank Farter and his helpers are chasing them! The elves also face ogres and other baddies. They must find the crops before Frank Farter does. When the elves eat the Elfy Food, they get more energy. At the end of each adventure, they say their famous line: "Once we've eaten, we can't be beaten!" But Frank Farter never gives up easily.

Magical Elfy Foods

In the show, real fruits and vegetables get new, fun names. These names often describe their size, shape, color, or taste. Eating them gives the elves different powers:

  • Apple - Crunch-a-Balls: Gives "sportability" (helps with sports).
  • Brussels sprout - Greenodomes: Provides "gas power" (a funny power!).
  • Carrot - Lumo Gooms: Gives "night-vision" (helps them see in the dark).
  • Orange - C Squirters: Cures "illness" (makes them healthy).
  • Broccoli - Turbo Tips: Provides "turbo power" (makes them super fast).
  • Peas - Moonbeans: Gives "dodgeability" (helps them avoid things).
  • Pear - Popdrops: Provides "super speed" (makes them run really fast).

Meet the Elfy Food Characters

Here are the main characters you'll meet in Elf Land:

  • Amy: She is the polite and caring elf. Her favorite color is pink. Amy loves all things girly and is very sweet. She enjoys beauty treatments but hates bad hair days. She secretly likes Yuri. Her special power is her incredible speed.
  • Bippin: He is the aggressive and quick-to-act elf. Bippin secretly likes Sylva but won't admit it. He tries to impress her but gets a little jealous of Yuri. Bippin's favorite color is blue. He loves fighting and using his superpower. He is good friends with Ezra and often helps him out of trouble. His superpower is his amazing strength. He doesn't like pretty things.
  • Yuri: He is the calm and quiet elf. Yuri is a Japanese elf who loves peace. He speaks softly. His favorite color is all colors, but he loves orange the most. This is because it reminds him of the C-Squirters. He is very agile. Yuri follows a kung fu rule: only use it in extreme situations. He sometimes does Yoga and loves meditation. His special power is his agility.
  • Sylva: She is the feisty and strong-willed leader of the elves. Sylva loves being in charge but hates being wrong. Bippin has a crush on her, but she isn't afraid to tell him off. Her favorite color is light blue. She and Yuri are best friends. Her special power is her brains.
  • Ezra: He is the timid elf. Bippin often calls him Ez. Ezra gets scared easily and often finds himself in trouble. He doesn't have much confidence. His special power is never fully shown. Only the Grand Elf knows what it is, but he doesn't tell.
  • Grand Elf: He is the wise head of the elf council in Elfland. You always see him at the start of the show, telling the story. He loves taking long naps but hates being woken up. He is the oldest elf in Elfland. He gives the young elves the map to find the secret Elfy Food locations.
  • Frank Farter: He is the main bad guy of the series. Frank Farter is an ambitious and evil dictator. He destroyed all the Elfy Food to make the elves weak and take over Elfland. Now, he's trying to find the hidden crops and stop the "elfy gang." The elves always beat him, but he never gives up. His name sounds like a type of food called a frankfurter.
