Elgin is a ghost town in Nevada, USA. A ghost town is a place where most people have left, leaving behind empty buildings. Elgin is located between the towns of Caliente and Carp. You can find it on the eastern side of the Meadow Valley Wash, just off Nevada State Route 317.

History of Elgin

The first people settled in Elgin in 1882. It started as a small community. Later, in 1913, a post office was opened in Elgin. This post office helped people send and receive mail. It stayed open for many years until 1966.

Elgin was once a town important for the railroad. Trains would pass through or stop there. Over time, fewer people lived in Elgin, and it became a ghost town.

Elgin Schoolhouse State Historic Site

Today, Elgin is known for the Elgin Schoolhouse State Historic Site. This site is a museum located in an old one-room schoolhouse. A one-room schoolhouse means all students, no matter their age, learned together in one classroom.
