Eliana's Early Life and Family
Eliana was born on November 22, 1973. Her parents are José Bezerra and Eva Michaelichin. José Bezerra came from Ceará, a state in Brazil. Eva Michaelichin was a Brazilian whose family came from Ukraine.
Eliana's parents met in São Paulo where they both worked. They got married and had an older daughter named Helena Duarte. At that time, Eliana's father worked as a caretaker for a building in São Paulo. Her mother was a maid and also helped take care of the building.
Eliana has shared that she had a happy childhood. Even if she didn't have all the toys she wanted, she felt she had the most important things: love, respect, and a good education. Her parents believed that learning was very important.
Eliana's Childhood Dreams
From a young age, Eliana knew she wanted to be an artist. When she was a student at Vila-Lobos School, she loved to take part in school parties. She danced in her first Brazilian Carnival when she was nine years old. At this young age, Eliana already said she would become a great artist.
When she was nine, Eliana really wanted to be a model. Her mother helped her join a modeling agency. Her first time on TV was in an advertisement where she was just an extra. In 1986, at 13, Eliana tried out for a music group called A Patotinha and was chosen. She was in the group for four years, and they had a big hit song called Baile dos Passarinhos.
When Eliana was seventeen, a famous TV host named Gugu invited her to join another popular music group called Banana Split.
Eliana's Journey in Television
The group Banana Split appeared on a TV show called Qual é a Música?. Eliana impressed the host, Silvio Santos, so much that he asked her to try out for a TV show. She said yes. In 1991, when she was eighteen, Eliana hosted her first program, Festolândia. At the same time, she was also studying psychology at university.
Two months after it started, Festolândia ended because not many people watched it. Eliana asked Silvio Santos for another chance. He agreed and let her present short skits on a show called Sessão Padrão. During this show, Eliana became known as "Eliana dos dedinhos" (Eliana of the little fingers) because of her popular song Os Dedinhos.
Becoming a Children's TV Star
Instead of continuing her psychology studies, Eliana chose to focus on her artistic career. At 20, she hosted her third program, Bom Dia & Cia. This was a children's show with skits, a doll named Melocoton, and a robot named Flitz. The show was a huge success! It led to several music albums and many products with Eliana's name on them. Eliana became very successful.
In 1996, when another popular children's host left SBT, 23-year-old Eliana started hosting TV Animal. This was a kids' show about animals and nature.
Moving to a New Network
After successfully hosting TV Animal, Eliana wanted to host a show for the whole family. However, she couldn't agree with Silvio Santos. So, she decided to sign a contract with Rede Record, another TV network. There, she could explore new interests and host a Sunday program. Some people criticized her for leaving SBT, which was the second-largest TV company, to work for the third-largest.
Eliana launched her new program, Eliana & Alegria, on October 12, 1998. On this show, she presented cartoons, acted in skits, had music guests, and included educational parts. She and her team made Eliana & Alegria a big hit. The show became very popular, especially because of the Pokémon cartoons that were shown during the program.
In 1999, Eliana started another show called Eliana no Parque, which aired on Sundays. It featured competitions between middle schools. This program ended in 2000, and Eliana was promised a new show. A year later, she started a weekday afternoon show for pre-teens, mostly girls. This show had music guests, comedy skits, and showed popular series like Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. It was well-received by viewers.
In 2005, Eliana decided to stop hosting children's shows. She wanted to host a show for the whole family. This led to the variety show Tudo é Possível (Everything is Possible). This show had segments based on reality shows and was a hit on Sunday afternoons at Record.
On August 30, 2009, Eliana returned to SBT to host her new show, Eliana. In April 2024, Eliana announced she was leaving SBT. In June 2024, she signed a contract with TV Globo to host The Masked Singer Brasil.
