Eliana's Early Life
Eliana was born on November 22, 1972. Her parents were José Bezerra and Eva Michaelichin. José was from Ceará, and Eva was a Brazilian with Ukrainian family roots.
Eliana's parents met in São Paulo where they both worked. They got married and had an older daughter, Helena. Eliana's father worked as a caretaker for a building, and her mother was a maid. Eliana often says that Helena was a very important part of her life.
Eliana had a happy childhood. Even though she didn't have all the toys she wanted, she had love, respect, and a good education. Her parents believed that school was very important. From a young age, Eliana knew she wanted to be an artist.
Becoming an Artist
When she was a student at Vila-Lobos School, Eliana loved to perform in school plays. She danced in her first carnival at age nine. She was sure she would become a great artist.
At nine, Eliana wanted to be a model. Her mother signed her up with a modeling agency. Her first TV appearance was a small role in an advertisement. In 1986, at 13, Eliana joined a music group called A Patotinha. They were very successful with their song Baile dos Passarinhos. She was in the group for four years.
When she was seventeen, Eliana was invited to join another popular music group, Banana Split. This was a big step for her career.
Eliana's TV Career
The group Banana Split appeared on a TV show called Qual é a Música?. The host, Silvio Santos, was very impressed by Eliana. He invited her to try out for a TV show.
Starting on TV
In 1991, at 18, Eliana started hosting her first show, Festolândia. At the same time, she was studying psychology at college. Festolândia didn't last long because not many people watched it. Eliana asked Silvio Santos for another chance. He let her present short skits on a show called Sessão Padrão.
During this show, Eliana became famous for her song Os Dedinhos (The Little Fingers). People started calling her Eliana dos dedinhos. At this point, Eliana decided to focus on her TV career instead of finishing her psychology studies.
Children's Shows and Big Success
At 20, Eliana started hosting her third show, Bom Dia & Cia. This was a children's program with skits, a doll named Melocoton, and a robot named Flitz. The show was a huge hit! It led to many music albums and products with Eliana's name on them. Eliana became very successful.
In 1996, when another TV host left SBT, 23-year-old Eliana began hosting TV Animal. This was a children's show about animals and nature.
Moving to a New Network
After doing well with TV Animal, Eliana wanted to host a show for the whole family. But she couldn't agree with Silvio Santos. So, she decided to sign a contract with Rede Record, another TV network. This allowed her to try new things and host a Sunday show. Some people criticized her for leaving SBT, which was a very big TV company.
On October 12, 1998, Eliana launched her new show, Eliana & Alegria. On this show, she showed cartoons, acted in skits, had music guests, and taught educational lessons. The show was very popular and became number one with viewers. It became even more popular when it started showing Pokémon cartoons.
In 1999, Eliana started another Sunday show called Eliana no Parque. This show featured competitions between middle schools. In 2000, that show ended, and Eliana was promised a new one. A year later, she started a weekday show for pre-teens, especially girls. It had music, comedy, and shows like Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. This show was also well-liked.
Shows for the Whole Family
In 2005, Eliana decided to stop doing children's shows. She wanted to host a show for everyone in the family. She started a variety show called Tudo é Possível (Everything is Possible). This show was a big hit on Sunday afternoons at Record.
On August 30, 2009, Eliana returned to SBT to host her new show, Eliana. In April 2024, Eliana announced she was leaving SBT. In June, she signed a contract with TV Globo to host The Masked Singer Brasil.
