Eliminator was an exciting quiz show for children. In this game, a team of three kids answered questions. Their goal was to move through different levels. But there was a catch! A scary demon called the "Eliminator" chased them. The show aired for two seasons. It ran from January 2003 to April 2004. Michael Underwood was the host.

How to Play Eliminator

The main goal of Eliminator was to reach the end of the game. Teams moved forward by answering questions. It was like playing a board game where you jump squares. The challenge was to avoid being caught by the Eliminator. If the Eliminator caught you, your team was out!

A computer picked one of eight question topics. Teams could choose how hard their question would be.

  • An easy question moved them one square.
  • A medium question moved them two squares.
  • A hard question moved them three squares.

All questions were multiple choice. In the first season, there were three possible answers. In the second season, there were four.

Game Levels

The game had three different levels. In the first season, doors separated the levels. In the second season, a lift connected them. The Eliminator did not move on the first question. This gave the team a head start.

After the team's second question, the Eliminator started moving:

  • On Level 1, the Eliminator moved one square behind the team.
  • On Level 2, it moved two squares behind.
  • On Level 3, it moved three squares behind.

Each level had a different look and number of steps:

  • Level 1 was an underground tunnel (Season 1) or a cave (Season 2). It had the first four steps.
  • Level 2 was a street (Season 1) or an underwater submarine corridor (Season 2). It had the next six steps.
  • Level 3 was on rooftops (Season 1) or a bridge high in the sky (Season 2). It had the last eight steps in Season 1, and ten steps in Season 2.

In Season 2, a "Surprise Step" was added. A loud sound would play if a team landed on it. The computer secretly chose if it was a "Forfeit" or "Reward" step.

  • On Forfeit Steps, the team might lose a player. Or the Eliminator could take extra moves if they got a question wrong.
  • On Reward Steps, the team could win a prize. Or they could take extra moves without the Eliminator moving if they answered correctly.

Winning the Game

At the end of Level 2, teams had a big choice. They could keep playing into Level 3 to try and win a holiday. Or, if they felt less brave, they could leave with a smaller prize. In Season 2, if a team took a smaller prize, the Eliminator would still "eliminate" them from the game.

Near the end of the game, teams usually had to answer the hardest questions. Answering these correctly meant bigger moves forward. This helped them stay ahead of the Eliminator.

If a team made it to the very end, they won a holiday together! In the first season, if a team reached the "prize tunnel," the Eliminator would get very angry. It really wanted to stop them from winning the main prize.

Once in the Prize Tunnel, teams had 30 seconds. They had to name as many things as they could from a given subject. Each correct answer improved their holiday prize. The goal was to get 10 correct answers. This won them the ultimate holiday! In Season 1, this was a Safari in Africa. In Season 2, it was a trip to The Bahamas. Other cool prizes included a multi-activity holiday in the UK and a trip to Andalusia in Spain.
