Early Life and Education

Elisabeth Møller Jensen was born on December 31, 1946. Her hometown was Lemvig in western Jutland, Denmark. Her father, Tage M. Jensen, was a baker. Her mother was Gudrun Borgholm.

Elisabeth grew up in a family that supported social democracy. This means they believed in fairness and helping everyone in society. She went to high school with her three siblings. She finished high school at Struer Gymnasium in 1967.

After high school, Elisabeth moved to Copenhagen, the capital city. She studied Danish and Russian at Copenhagen University. Later, she focused on Danish studies. She earned her university degree in 1977.

Career and Research

In 1973, Elisabeth Møller Jensen started teaching at the university. She also became more involved in politics. She joined several groups that wanted big changes in society.

She taught at different universities for a while. In 1984, she earned another degree. This one was in Nordic literature from Aarhus University. Her special project was about a Norwegian writer named Camilla Collet. This work was published as a book in 1987. Its title was Emancipation som lidenskab. This means Emancipation as a Passion.

From 1981, Elisabeth worked on a big research project. This project led to a huge book series. She was the editor of Nordisk kvindelitteraturhistorie. This means Nordic Women's Literary History. It was published in five large books from 1993 to 1998.

Leading Kvinfo

In 1990, Elisabeth Møller Jensen became the director of Kvinfo. Kvinfo is a special center for women and gender information. Under her leadership, Kvinfo grew a lot. The number of staff tripled, meaning it became three times bigger.

She also updated Kvinfo's magazine, Forum. She helped create Europe's first online database about women. This made it easier for people to find information. In 2006, she started a program called "Women in Dialogue". This program focused on women in the Middle East.

Elisabeth retired from Kvinfo in February 2014. She had worked there for almost 24 years.

Awards and Recognition

Elisabeth Møller Jensen has received many awards for her work.

  • In 1994, she won the Lis Jacobsen prize. This was for her work as editor of Nordisk Kvindelitteraturhistorie.
  • In 2004, she received the Tagea Brandt Rejselegat. This is a special travel scholarship.
  • In 2006, she was honored as a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog. This is a high honor given by the Danish government.
