Early Life and Learning

Elisabeth Prueitt grew up in Park Slope, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. Before becoming a chef, she explored different interests. She first studied acting, then photojournalism.

Later, she decided to follow her passion for cooking. She joined the chef’s training program at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). This is a well-known school for chefs. It was there that she met Chad Robertson, who would become her husband and business partner.

After graduating from the CIA in 1993, Elisabeth gained more experience. She worked in kitchens in New York City, including a restaurant called Montrachet. In 1994, she and Chad traveled to France. They learned many baking secrets from experienced bakers like Daniel Collin in Provence and Patrick Le Port in Savoie.

Starting a Baking Career

Elisabeth Prueitt and Chad Robertson started their baking journey by running a few bakeries. They had Wood-Fire Baking in Point Reyes and Bay Village Breads in Mill Valley, both in California.

Their biggest success came in 2002 when they opened their first Tartine bakery. Tartine quickly became very popular for its delicious breads and pastries. They later expanded, opening Bar Tartine and, in 2011, Tartine Sandwich.

Many people have praised Elisabeth for her amazing skills. She has been called a “brilliant pastry chef” and even a “pastry prodigy” because of her incredible talent.

Personal Life and Helping Others

Elisabeth Prueitt is married to Chad Robertson. They met while studying at the Culinary Institute of America. In the 2000s, they had a child who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. This is a condition that affects movement and muscle coordination.

To care for their child, Elisabeth took a break from her career for several years. Around 2011, she also helped start the Conductive Learning Center of San Francisco. This center offers special summer camps for children who have motor disabilities, helping them learn and grow.

Elisabeth Prueitt is also gluten intolerant. This means she cannot eat foods that contain gluten, a protein found in wheat and some other grains.
