Liz Prueitt's Early Life and Training
Elisabeth Prueitt grew up in Park Slope, Brooklyn. She first explored acting and then photojournalism. Later, she decided to study cooking. She joined the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). This is a famous school for chefs.
At the CIA, she met Chad Robertson. He would later become her husband and business partner. Liz finished her studies at the CIA in 1993. Before graduating, she gained experience working in a New York City restaurant called Montrachet.
In 1994, Liz and Chad traveled to France. They learned from expert bakers there. They studied with Daniel Collin in Provence. They also learned from Patrick Le Port in Savoie.
Building a Baking Career
After their time in France, Liz Prueitt and Chad Robertson started their own bakeries. They ran Wood-Fire Baking in Point Reyes. They also had Bay Village Breads in Mill Valley.
In 2002, they opened their first Tartine bakery. This became very popular. Later, they opened Bar Tartine. In 2011, they added Tartine Sandwich. People have called Liz a "brilliant pastry chef." Some even call her a "pastry prodigy."
Personal Life and Community Work
Liz Prueitt is married to Chad Robertson. They met while studying at the Culinary Institute of America. In the 2000s, they had a child. Their child was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Liz took a break from her career to care for their child. Around 2011, she helped start a special place. It is called the Conductive Learning Center of San Francisco. This center offers summer camps. These camps help children with motor disabilities. Liz Prueitt is also gluten intolerant.
