Elizabeth Bradley, born on April 9, 1961, is an American scientist. She is an expert in applied math and computer science. She was also an Olympic rower! Today, she is a professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. She studies nonlinear systems, which are complex systems where small changes can have big effects. She also looks at time series, which are data points collected over time.

Her Rowing Career

Elizabeth Bradley was a talented rower. She competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. She was part of the women's coxed four team. Her teammates were Jennifer Corbet, Cynthia Eckert, and Sarah Gengler. Kim Santiago was their coxswain, who steers the boat. Their team finished fifth out of ten boats in the event.

Before the Olympics, she also competed in other big races. In 1986, she raced in the 1986 World Rowing Championships. Her team placed fourth in the women's eights event. The next year, in 1987, she competed again. She placed fourth in the women's pairs event at the 1987 World Rowing Championships.

Her Education and Work

Elizabeth Bradley studied at the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She earned her first degree in electrical engineering in 1983. Later, she received a master's degree in computer science in 1986. She continued her studies and earned her Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science in 1992. Her Ph.D. research was about making complex electronic circuits work better.

In 1993, she became a professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. She taught computer science there. From 2003 to 2006, she was even the head of the computer science department. In 2004, she became a full professor. She has also visited Harvard University and was a special fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. In 1995, she was named a Packard Fellow in Science and Engineering.

Her hard work has been recognized with awards. In 2008, she was named a Distinguished Professor. This award came from a group that helps more people get into computer research. In 2017, the University of Colorado named her a President's Teaching Scholar. This award celebrates professors who are excellent teachers.
