Elizabeth Hastings (born in 1546, died August 24, 1621) was an important lady from a noble family. She was born in Scotland. Her parents were Francis Hastings, 2nd Earl of Huntingdon, and Catherine Pole.
On December 16, 1571, Elizabeth got married at Whitehall Palace. It was a special day with three weddings happening at once! She married Sir Edward Somerset, 4th Earl of Worcester. His father was Sir William Somerset, 3rd Earl of Worcester. After her marriage, Elizabeth became known as the Countess of Worcester.
A Royal Welcome
In 1603, Elizabeth traveled to Berwick upon Tweed. She was part of a special group of important people. Their job was to welcome Anne of Denmark to England. Anne was the new queen, wife of King James.
The King's special advisors, called the Privy Council, chose who would go. Elizabeth was one of two countesses chosen. The group also included two baronesses and two other ladies. About 200 horsemen rode with them. They welcomed Queen Anne to England on June 3, 1603.
