Elk Rock Island is a special island located in the Willamette River in Oregon, USA. This island is about 12 to 13 acres big. That's like the size of about 10 football fields!

The island was created a very long time ago, about 40 million years ago, by a volcano. In 1940, a person named Peter Kerr gave the island to the city of Portland. Later, in April 2016, the city of Milwaukie became the owner of this beautiful park.

Island Nature and Plants

Elk Rock Island is home to many different kinds of plants and trees. You can find areas with trees that lose their leaves in the fall, like oak trees. There are also parts of the island with a mix of evergreen trees and trees that lose their leaves.

The island also has areas with grassy plants that stay green all year. It's one of the last places where you can find the Oregon White Oak tree growing naturally. This makes the island a very important place for nature.
