Ellen Marijn Hoog, born on March 26, 1986, is a famous former Dutch field hockey player. Many people think she is one of the best Dutch hockey players ever! She played as a midfielder and was known for her amazing skills on the field.

Ellen Hoog's Hockey Journey
Ellen started playing field hockey when she was just seven years old. By 2002, at age 16, she played her first senior game for Stichtse Cricket en Hockey Club. She joined the Netherlands women's national field hockey team in 2004 when she was 17. She played in 232 matches for her country, scoring 60 goals.
Olympic Medals and World Cups
Ellen won two Olympic gold medals with her team. The first was at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The second gold medal came at the 2012 London Olympics. She also earned a silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
She was part of the Dutch teams that won the Women's Hockey World Cup twice. They won in 2006 and again in 2014. Ellen was even named the best player of the 2014 World Cup!
European and Champions Trophies
In August 2005, Ellen became a European champion in Dublin. Later that year, she won the Champions Trophy in Canberra. She also won more European Championships in 2009 and 2011.
Penalty Shootout Hero
Ellen Hoog made history in 2012. She was the first player to win a major championship game with a penalty shootout. This happened in the 2012 Summer Olympics semi-final against New Zealand. She did it again in 2016, scoring the winning shot against Germany in the Olympic semi-final.
Retirement from Hockey
Ellen stopped playing for the national team in 2016. She then retired from club hockey in May 2017. Her last club was Amsterdamsche Hockey & Bandy Club.
Ellen's Unique Playing Style
Ellen Hoog was known for her special way of playing. She was very good at "reverse shooting," which is a tricky shot in hockey. She was also strong and accurate with her forehand shot, especially when taking penalty corners. Her speed and ability to change direction quickly made her one of the most dangerous midfielders in the world.
Life Outside of Hockey
In August 2015, Ellen published her book called In perfecte conditie. This means "In perfect condition."
Ellen Hoog got married in June 2017, after she finished her professional hockey career. She became a mother in February 2019 when her daughter was born.
