Ellia English is an American singer, dancer, and actress. She was born in Covington, Georgia. Many people know her best for playing Aunt Helen King on the TV comedy show The Jamie Foxx Show. This show was on from 1996 to 2001. On the show, she often acted alongside Garrett Morris, who played her husband, Junior King. Ellia English also had important roles in other TV shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Good Luck Charlie, and Code Black.

Ellia's Journey to Acting

Ellia English was born in Covington, Georgia. She finished high school early. After that, she went to Clark College in Atlanta. Her first plan was to become a lawyer.

However, things changed when the head of the drama department heard her singing. He offered her a main role in a musical! This made Ellia think about a different path. She then moved to Georgia State University to study speech and drama. Soon, she became part of the acting group at the Alliance Theater.

Ellia loved acting so much that she decided to move to New York City. There, she performed in many plays. Some of these included Ain't Misbehavin' and Dreamgirls. She also sang as a solo artist with the New York Community Choir.

Moving to Hollywood

Later, Ellia English moved to Los Angeles, California. This is where she became a regular on The Jamie Foxx Show as Helen King. She also appeared in other TV shows like Martin and Sinbad.

Ellia has also been in movies. Some of her film roles include Wildcats and My Sister's Keeper. She won the Best Actress Award at the 2009 New York Horror Film Festival for her role as Mona in the movie Cornered!.

Ellia English still has homes in both Atlanta, Georgia, and Los Angeles, California. She spends her time helping children's groups, like Big Sisters of Los Angeles. In her free time, she enjoys playing the flute and piano, reading, walking, and biking.
