Ellisville, also known as Coloma, is a small place in Cherokee County, Alabama, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
A Look Back: History of Ellisville
Ellisville got its name from a man named Wyatt Ellis Sr. He owned a store in the area, and people started calling the community after him.
The Coloma Post Office
For many years, from 1850 to 1907, the community had a post office. It was known by a different name: Coloma. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages.
The Cherokee Rangers
A group of soldiers called Company I of the 19th Regiment Alabama Infantry was formed here. They were also known as the "Cherokee Rangers." These soldiers gathered at Coloma on August 10, 1861, to prepare for their duties.
