Elphinstone Place was a very tall building project planned for Glasgow, Scotland. It was designed to be a skyscraper, which is a very tall building with many floors. The plan for Elphinstone Place included offices, shops, and homes all in one building. It was going to be built where the old Strathclyde Regional Council Headquarters used to be.

Why Elphinstone Place Was Cancelled
The building project for Elphinstone Place started planning in 2004. However, in July 2008, the developers, Elphinstone, announced that the project would not go ahead. This was because of big money problems happening around the world at that time.
Financial Challenges
One of the main companies that was going to help pay for the building, Lehman Brothers, faced serious financial difficulties. This made it impossible to get enough money to build Elphinstone Place. Even though some early work had been done on the ground for the tower, the developers said they didn't have another plan for the site right away.
What Elphinstone Place Would Have Been Like
If it had been built, Elphinstone Place would have been a very impressive building.
Scotland's Tallest Building
The skyscraper was planned to have 39 floors. This would have made it the tallest building in both Glasgow and all of Scotland. It was going to be located on the western side of Blythswood Hill, close to Glasgow's main financial area.
What Happened to the Site Instead
After the Elphinstone Place project was cancelled, the site remained empty for a few years.
New Scottish Power Headquarters
In July 2012, new plans were announced for the site. Instead of Elphinstone Place, a new main office building for the energy company Scottish Power was built there. This new building was finished in 2017. It is still quite tall, around 60 metres, but not as tall as Elphinstone Place would have been.
