A Look at Els Poblets' History
Els Poblets started as an old farm after the Muslim conquest. Later, it became part of the Christian area of Dénia. But people lived here even earlier! At a Roman site called Almadrava, archaeologists found old houses. These houses were part of a pottery workshop. They also found clay deposits and rooms for the workers.
Around the 1500s, the area known as Miraflor belonged to the lords of Perpignan. Later, it became the home of the Cardona noble family. Many people living here were moriscos. These were Muslims who had converted to Christianity. In 1609, there were 85 morisco houses. After they were expelled, new people from Mallorca came to live in the town.
In 1971, the areas of Mira-rosa and Miraflor joined together. On November 25, 1991, the town officially changed its name to Els Poblets. This was the name people already used for the area.
