Elsie is a small place in Magoffin County, Kentucky, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially part of a city or town. It doesn't have its own local government.
Where is Elsie Located?
Elsie is found in the eastern part of Kentucky. It is located northwest of Salyersville. Salyersville is the main town, or county seat, of Magoffin County.
Elsie sits along the Licking River. This river flows through the area. You can also find smaller valleys nearby. These include Wolf Branch, Buck Branch, Cripple Creek, and Greasy Creek. The land in Elsie is about 850 feet (259 meters) above sea level.
How Elsie Got Its Name
Elsie got its name from a special person. A post office was opened there in 1911. The person who ran the post office first was called the postmaster. He decided to name the community after his daughter, Elsie.
